Default Seagate 1.5TO HD with Nvidia Chipset (Nforce go430) : big problems!!

Earlier in this forum I was having problems formatting my new Seagate 1.5TO
hd.

LVTravel put me on the track of an Nvidia chipset problem . As a result, I
updated the nVidia drivers NF-SPP-100/nForce go 430 and was able to get a
full 1.5TO from the hd and thought my problems were over.....but no no no
sniff sniff

My new problem is that my HD disappears in Vista Pro when I reboot my
computer! It's detected normally in the BIOS (also updated on my Asus
M2NPV-VM motherboard)

I can get it back and use it normally by going through the configuaration
panel, administration tools, storage (rough translation of French
version)etc.etc. assigning a new drive letter to it, but it disappears as
soon as I reboot. As a result I have to go through the same process again to
be able to see/use it!

I decided that the problem was due to Nvidia and bought a Bluestork PCI E
1+1 e Sata card to plug my Seagate into but Windows refuses to start when
the HD is plugged into it!! If I unplug the HD leave the Bluestork empty ,
then Windows reboots OK!

I have therefore come to the conclusion that the Seagate 1.50To is the
problem!!!

What can I do to get the Seagate recognised automatically in Windows Vista
Pro?

Help, help, help!!!

Regards
Steve

ps

for info : I have two other Seagate Sata 250go.HDs plugged into the same
motherboard that work fine, alongside two other IDE HDs

Contact Seagate Tech, maybe a firmware issue - I seem to recall reading
something about Seagate 1TB+ drives problems

I'm back but don't know if this will help this time.

What drive letter are you assigning each time you do it after it isn't
found? Is it possible that you have a card reader or printer attached that
is also auto-assigning a drive letter to a USB port or even a mapped network
drive that is in conflict with the one that Windows is assigning to the 1.5
TB drive?

In disk management (right click computer, left click Manage, Disk
Management. Look at the drive assignments without the 1.5 TB drive attached
and then shut down, hook the drive up to the controller, reboot and see what
happens in the disk management window again. See if it is being covered by
one of the other drives. You may even try changing drive letters for any
USB or card reader drives to a higher letter to see if this clears up your
issue.

If on a network, check your drive mappings also.

On a new system I automatically assign any permanent removable drives, card
readers, DVD/CD drives to a letter at least 5 higher than what I have
physically installed as hard drives or partitions. This allows any
additional drive installed or inserted to be recognized and not have an
issue with letter assignments.

What DL said about the firmware issues IIRC was corrected on the 1.5 TB
drives but there is a drive check utility on Seagate's site that will check
by a scan or serial number if yours needs a firmware update. Mine did not.
Here's the web site for the Seagate check

I used Seatools to check the drive and it came up as faulty. My local shop
gave me another one and it was faulty too!!

The shop checked the two drives on their machine and they both worked
fine....

The problem therefore appears to be the nforce 430 sata chip

I got a Hitachi 1TO and it works fine so I'll stick tothat for themoment;-)

Thanks for all the help
