Hi there, Since yesterday I have started to receve a prompt saying: "RtHDVCpl.exe - Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0x0000005). Click OK to terminate the application." When I click OK, another prompt appears to say that the HD Audio Control Panel has stopped working. Since my sound still works I thought nothing of it but noticed that MSN and Skype did not load as usual. When I double click on them nothing happens. I tried doing a search on the internet and ended up paying for a software that did not resolve my problem (very annoying) and even if I uninstall and reinstall msn & skype there is still no response when I click on the icons. I have no idea if the 2 are related as one seems to do with sound, but since they both happened at the same time I can only suspect that they are. The last thing I did before this started to happen was to power down my PC in the normal way, but with msn & skype still onscreen (but signed off). My virus definitions, sound cards, drivers are all up-to-date. My laptop is brand new (less than 1 month old) and I have a Sony Vaio VGNAW11XU. Any thoughts anyone? Thank you Nuri -- Nuri |

Basic tech troubleshooting: 1. isolate the problem. Is it added software,
or Windows? You need to find out which program is causing the conflict. First step: stop all the programs you've added from loading at startup. (instant messengers, skype, realplayer, quicktime, all of it) ....turn off the program you paid for. You don't need to erase it. What was it? Go into each one, and turn off the selection for starting when Windows starts up. Msconfig won't make a difference here. Clean out the Startup folder, and check msconfig for other entries. If there are some, go back one step. Get rid of any toolbars, until after the problem is solved. The program you mention is part of the Control Panel. You didn't mention the name of your security / virus package, so that may still be an issue. If you have a very thorough, invasive package, (the major names) it's likely not an infection. If you're on a free program, it still could be. Vista version, virus scanner title, malware titles, and the name of the purchased program that didn't work, would help. "Nuri" wrote in message ... ::Hi Ralph, thank you for the information. I have turned off all the programmes as described above. My startup folder was already empty (the one located when you click on the windows logo and then programmes). I did remember that there was a function within Windows Live Onecare which stopped startup items, and I turned off any items that had not been turned off. I then had a look at msconfig & turned off any remaining items there.:: ::After restarting my pc, the error message had gone - hooray & thank you Ralph!! - but when I tried, I still could not access Skype or MSN messenger L. When I try to load them, I then had a look at task manager, but they are not running in the background either. I’ve tried one more uninstall and re-install with no luck. I have also just tried pre-installed games like solitaire, and they are not working either now and giving the same error message as the ‘RtHDVCpl.exe’ but with their own ‘.exe’ file name (its worth noting that not even Skype or messenger even give this message prompt, and the games were working the day before the rtHDVCpl error message started). :: ::Within OneCare there was a programme ‘HD Audio Control Panel’. I have left this programme turned off, turned everything else back on, and did one more re-boot. The RtHDVCpl message seems to now stop appearing but as for the other items mentioned above - no change. :: :: :: ::The data you asked for is as follows::: ::Program I paid for: Registry Booster (by uniblue):: ::Vista version: Windows Vista Ultimate:: ::Virus scanner: Windows Live OneCa: ::Not sure about the malware, but I guess this is OneCare as well as I get it to do everything that it can. :: ::I have the latest graphics card (T9600) so I don’t think that it may be because of that, but not being an computer wiz I wouldn’t like to take that assumption!:: :: :: ::Could this be indication of a larger design / software fault, or possible corruption somewhere?:: :: :: ::Thanks again for your time!:: ::Nuri:: -- Nuri |
