What is the device which drivers are being installed ?

Check device manager for any ! or ? marks

Check the plug & play service in services.msc if it is started or not

The device driver is MTP for an MP3 player. The player is set up to use MTP
but reverts to MSC mode when connected. It still works OK via WMP etc so
this is an annoyance rather than a serious issue.

In device Manager the MTP device is marked with !, details as per posting.

This all happened after running WinOptimiser which seems to have deleted
some wanted files, it trashed MS Money which had to be re-installed.

Trying to update driver and deleting/re-installing MTP driver leads to same
error which occurs when PC is booted.

P&P service OK.
