Default Unable to get Windows Updates

On a Toshiba with Vista Home Premium, it won't allow Updates to open the
site. Whether from the Start menu, or Microsoft.com. It says Windows
Explorer has a problem and needs to shut down, which closes all windows.
From any access point the same problem occurs trying to get updates. I did
download and install Service Pack 1 and it says it is installed, and only 14
updates are showing in the Programs installed window. I did that through the
Download area of MS.com. The computer was bought used with no real history
behind the previous installs. I believe this Vista install was over an
original XP OS. The HD is around 90GB and less than 40GB is in use.

Terry, the Windows Update website has been replaced by Windows Update in
Control Panel in Vista. If you want to check for updates manually, follow
these steps:
1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs,
and then clicking Windows Update.

2. In the left pane, click Check for updates.

I've noticed with SP 1, the option to start using Microsoft Update is under
Change Settings.
