When Vi$ta download and install a driver, where could I find it?

Does Vi$ta log the event into c:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log?

I would like to keep a copy of that driver so that when I re-install
Vi$ta, I don't need to download it again. Also the driver might
disappear in the future.

This has worked for me in the past:

Open WindowsUpdate.log in Notepad, and do a search for "drvs". Here's an
example:

2009-03-25 08:40:42:565 900 53c DnldMgr * Downloading from
http://www.download.windowsupdate.co...de6ed290b4.cab
to
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\9a43d71e5 6ecf7fc3c652524c5455fb9\f665ad984f9f877e66c966d585 e45ade6ed290b4
(full file).

There you have the URL (starting with "http:" and ends with ".cab") to
the driver cab file, so copy that URL into your browser and download it.

Inside the cab you will find the driver. You can extract the cab file
with 7-Zip (or probably any other archive utility).

I don't think so. WindowsUpdate.log will only be of help to you if you
installed the drivers from Windows Update.

Another solution is to use a program called DriverBackup!, which you can
download from this URL:

With this program you can export drivers that you have installed on your
system.

My advice is to not let Vista install hardware drivers that are not MS
related
Go to the device manufacturers website and get the drivers from there.
They are more up to date than any from the MS site...and you can save them
to any folder on your HD

I have a webcam driver that's available only via Search Online for
drivers (that's, only Micro$oft have it).
