Default Movie Maker Problems

I have been using Windows Movie Maker for several years. I do extensive
video editing that includes sound fx, cuts, overlays, etc. On my
previous laptop, running windows xp, I had no problems with the movie
maker. When I purchased my new laptop that runs on windows vista home
premium 32bit, I have problems with the editing.

Several things occur when I use sound fx. Some sound clips play fine
during editing but when I publish to my computer I find that several of
them are missing or not sounding. I also find that the clip changes as
I work with it. It uploads from my camera with no problem but when I
finish editing and publish it, there are several areas that play in
short bursts of fast motion.

Any thoughts? I've tried other editing programs like pinnacle, etc.
but still prefer all the things that window movie maker allows me to do
so easily.

I upload the videos from my Panasonic 3CC miniDV video camera. The most
recent one was 19 minutes long and 3.93 GB big.

After editing them I publish them to my computer using the "best quality
for playback on my computer" setting. It comes out as a nice size for
WMV viewing.

You upload the sound effects from your minidv cam?
If not, where do these come from and what file type are they?
