Removing Memory Cards
::I'm confused: When I remove a memory card (xD, Smart Media, etc.,) from my multi-card reader on my computer after transfering photos to my hard drive, do I need to use the \"Safely Remove Hardware\" function? How about when I remove a USB Flash Drive after transfering photos? Or is the \"Safely Remove Hardware\" option just used when removing a USB connected device such as a printer or scanner?:: -- tommy1de |

They got rid of it in recent updates to Windows Vista. Now you right-click on the drive/device in File Manager and select Eject. It's to make sure everything in the cache is written to the drive properly before you take it out. If you're only reading from it you can probably get away without going through all that. However in practice you should use Eject or Safely Remove Hardware since you don't always know what the computer is doing. It might be in the process of creating thumbnails for you or something. |

Removing Memory Cards
The "Safely Remove Hardware" function is not needed on memory cards inserted
into a card reader. These are recognized and treated as removable storage. Removing Memory Cards
Thanks.... when I use my HP Printer card reader and click "Safely Remove Hardware" under my computer Disk K, it deletes the software for my printer. I have to uninstall the device in Device Manager and reboot to reinstall the software. I will stop doing that! Thanks again! -- tommy1de |

Removing Memory Cards
Yep, that's because the "hardware" you're stopping is the printer, not the
removable card itself. "tommy1de" wrote in message ...
