Since the computer installed the SP2 Vista (VU) i'm getting this message Failed extract of third-party root list from auto update cab at: with error: A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file. and the ms web site 'Event ID 11 — Automatic Root Certificates Update Configuration' (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc734018.aspx) does not help much since the solution it suggest is what it installed. I have the same problem on three computer which all moved to Vista U SP2 Thanks in advance for any usefull indications -- calabrache |

I ran into a similar problem 4-5 years ago.
Have you been installing the optional root certificate updates when they become available in Windows Update. They have to be refreshed upon occasion - hence the updates. -- Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience "calabrache" wrote in message ... Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not sure i understand what "optional root certificate updates when they become available in Windows Update" means and where i'm supposed to find them. The WU does all automatic and install everything on the pc. Should i update something else elsewhere ? Thank for your assistance . regards -- calabrache |

Run Windows Update manually. Click "check for updates". It it says that
updates are available, click on "view available updates". Not all updates are automatically installed by default. Some you have to purposefully choose for installation. -- Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience "calabrache" wrote in message ... Thanks for the quick reply. I am not certain if this (root certificates) is your problem but you can
read this to find out a bit more about them. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931125 -- Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience "calabrache" wrote in message ... I too received the same error after upgrading to Vista SP2. I believe this error is timing related on startup and have a solution that has worked for me. Set vista cryptographic services to automatic (delayed start). Reboot and the capi2 error 11 occurs no more. -- Jim Kole |

I set the cryptographic service to delayed start but still get "Failed extract of third-party root list from auto update cab at: with error: A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file." when starting (cold start) the PC. Thanks for the help -- calabrache |

I tried the same but I also still get that message. I've read that you should
give the temp folder Full Control rights to the user that you logged in with, but without succes here. Any one knows a sollutions for the error event? I contacted MSoft support to no avail. The right in the temp folder are as indicated, and delaying the cryptographic service start does not help. Someone suggested to wait some WU, but until now this is neither succesfull.... -- calabrache |
