Default Long Distance Phone Service Required for Sending Fax to Another St

This might sound like a really stupid question, but I wonder if long distance
telephone service is required in order to send faxes to another state?

I only have local phone service, not even local toll!

Also, do you have to have a fax # in order to receive fax?

If the above are silly questions, pardon my idiocy!

Regards

Yes, to use the fax, it just makes the phone call to a fax, so you would
need long distance service. But, there are alternatives such as efax.com
where you can scan a document and send it via their service. Vonage and
other VoIP services may be another alternative, but they are iffy in the fax
services.

Yes, long distance phone service is definitely necessary as sending a
fax is the equivalent of making a phone call since one fax is dialing
another fax.
