Default SFC.exe error

Hello.

When I try to run sfc.exe/scannow as administrator it always stops at
76% and I get the message "can't execute the operation asked for"
(translated from Dutch).
The cbs log shows the following errors at the end:

Default SFC.exe error

I had a similar problem with Vista Ultimate 64-bit until I installed Service
Pack 1 - then the problem went away. I now have Service Pack 2 and sfc
/scannow still runs to completion. If you are missing a Service Pack, that
might solve the problem.

If you have your version of Vista on DVD (the full installation version, not
a restore DVD image), try putting the DVD in your CD/DVD drive, close any
window that appears and then run sfc as before. This was sometimes required
when running sfc with Windows XP to fix errors and allow a run to completion.

It's a pity, I don't have a Vista DVD. Vista was pre-installed on my
laptop and there is an recovery partition on is. I'll have to wait for
the sp2 and I think when Windows 7 is out I'll switch to that if windows
7 is affordable. But thanks for the reply's
