I have a prior post ( see below ) where I swapped out 4 x 512 PC4200 and
although Sony didnt state it dropped in 4 x 1meg 5300. First Windows
expereince score was 5.9 and after the upgrade it dropped to 5.4. First
batch was ildata & Crucial mix and these are all PNY. I think I'd like to
go to 4 Crucial sticks as the PNY sticks werent allidentical ( couldnt tell
till I opened the pack ). Appreciate your thoughts.

I have personally seen, and many have reported, my Windows Experience score
go down with an increase in RAM. Don't be alarmed.

The RAM should be matched. Mis-matched RAM can cause all sorts of problems -
especially if you try to over clock the system.

Amazing. I re-arranged the sticks to be identcal in respsctive slots and
still no change. Did an Google search and you're right. Very common and
inexplicable.

Overall memory performance is a function of memory and of memory latency,
see the following link:

http://www.interfacebus.com/Design_C...DVI_Bus. html

the PC5300 sticks may have higher latency value then the PC 4200 sticks had.

Thanks. Would I do better with4200 than the 5300 ? I'm not an expert by
any means. The stickes I'm looking at are a 5

I am not an expert at all concerning latency I just realized that it
probably explained the drop in overall memory performance.
AFAIK the latency values are a function of the memory itself and you can not
change it depending on a MOBO.

Another factor to consider is that not all motherboards can utilize all
RAM slots at their fasted speed, so swapping out RAM may or may not help
at all, you may be stuck with a choice of either less sticks of faster
RAM or more sticks of slower RAM.
