Default Vista Error, please guide. Machine wont start.

Hello everyone
First timer here.

I have a serious issue. I use Sony Vaio with Vista Home Premium OS.
Last eve I, with God-knows-what-mind, started my laptop with the pen
drive in the slot. So the drive was in before the machine started. I
went outside my room while letting it start and when I came in back I
saw this blue screen with the message something like "New hardware or
sotware not installed properly. Reinstall. Press F8 for BIOS settings
and to enter safe mode. If you getting this message for first time,
restart your machine."

Something on those lines. Below the message was some other message
which I cannot recall.

Now when I try to restart my machine by removing the battery and
putting again it just doesnt show me anything on screen, infact it seems
as if the display is off.
The LED for processor and battery is on continuously, but the hard disk
LED blinks initially once and then off. Screen continues to do nothing.

Please help. What could this be about? Waiting for any help eagerly.
Thanks.

-Pooj.

I don't know what model you have, but try the function key plus F7 (Fn+F7)
and see if the display comes up.
Unplug from the charger and remove the battery for 20 minutes. Leave the
battery out and plug into the charger and turn the laptop on.Try pressing F2
and see if it goes into BIOS. If so, go to the Exit menu and select Get
Default Values and press Enter. When it asks if you want to load default
values, select yes. Save and exit and see if that fixes it.
Make sure you have nothing external plugged in when trying this- no USB
drives, no floppy (if so equipped), no external keyboard/mouse/monitor.

Hi Tom,

I tried what you suggested. Removed the battery and put in the charger
and restarted. But it wont start. Just the first LED is green. F2 won't
function either. Its like complete blackout, infact it looks like the
screen is not connected at all coz it doesnt even blink while starting.
My model number is Sony VGN CR 353. Please help!
