Hello, I am facing a strange problem with my HP Dv6705 laptop running on Vista Professional. I have a Wi-fi router configured for internet access. Now, the internet connectivity is intermittent i.e. I am connected to the internet for about 5 seconds before it gets disconnected. I get the connectivity again after a few seconds before it gets disconnected. Now, I started using the uTorrent application after which I got prolonged connectivity. From the past few days, whenever I need uninterrupted internet I need to turn on the uTorrent application. It is quite strange that I am the only one who needs to do this while the others in my house (who have similar laptops) do not face any problem. Is there any way to detect what exactly is happening and how I can resolve this uTorrent workaround? Thanks in advance. - Treadstone -- Treadstone ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Treadstone's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/110667.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-v...rk/1206714.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

Hi
Take a look of of is running the Wireless and make sure that only one Utility is running (either the Vendor utility, or Window WLAN Auto Config). In addition, many Laptops come with "Loads of Junk" in the StratUp that is running unneeded in the background (including applications that affect the Network connection) take a look at the StartUp and remove things that you do not need. Get these two free Utilities (StartUp & Process Explorer). Check what your computer is doing upfront (StartUp), http://www.ezlan.net/infestation.html#startup Then get this one and check what it is doing behind you back. http://www.ezlan.net/infestation.html#process P.S. these utility are free and do not need even to get installed, just run the Exe files it does not take more then few seconds. Treadstone, Which is the state of connection network to the place you uses your laptop? Is the signal good? Which is the transmission speed of the laptop when that arrives? -- PhilPerrier ------------------------------------------------------------------------ PhilPerrier's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/110305.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-v...rk/1206714.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

Thanks for your responses. @Jack: I tried using the StartUp and Process Explorer utilities. Tried to run with only the basic processes running in the background. But couldn't resolve the problem. @PhilPerrier: The signal strength is excellent throughout. There seems to be no problem with that. The laptop transmits at about 12,00,000 Bytes and 30,00,000 Bytes. I tried uninstalling the Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapater driver and reinstalling it. That din't help either. Any help would be appreciated. Treadstone, Your Atheros card transmit from 6 to 54 Mbs. If the signal is bad, the transmission will be done at speeds' bellow 30 Mbps. Probably, that the speed of 12 Mbps is caused by the weakness of the signal. You should try to connect your laptop close to your router in order to check if you do not lose the connection due to quality of the signal. If it is the case, moves your router in an elevated place in order to pass over the most metallic’s objects as possible. -- PhilPerrier ------------------------------------------------------------------------ PhilPerrier's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/110305.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-v...rk/1206714.htm http://forums.techarena.in |
