I ran Memtest 86+ and Windows Memory Diagnostics in DOS mode with the
battery removed. Both tests went on for an hour with no errors and then my laptop shuts down. It does that sometimes when I'm doing something in Windows, but most of the time it's fine. I download movies and play videos and multitask and it's fine. I wonder if the memory has errors or if the mobo is conking out. Gateway laptop AMD Turion dual processor 1.6 Ghz with 1GB memory which I recently upgraded to 2GB, Vista Home Premium SP1. |

It does get a bit hot, but not hotter than some of the Windows apps where it
doesn't shut down. I opened it up and there wasn't much dirt or dust around the fan and heat sink. "DL" wrote in message ... Overheating? "RJ" wrote in message ... Seeing as how you recently upgraded your memory, (though you omitted to include any of the details), that would be my first suspect and the need to eliminate them as a source of error should be the first step (that is, try replacements and/or your original memory). PS....you also didn't mention if the random shutdowns were happening before the memory upgrade. :-) RJ wrote: It does get a bit hot, but not hotter than some of the Windows apps where it doesn't shut down.
