Default Backup Disk Full

Folks - I've been faithfully backing up my C: to another internal hard
disk on a weekly basis for over a year now. I just received an error
message telling me that my E: is full, so the most recent backup was
unable to be completed. How do I delete old backup files - is it as
simple as deleting the particular backup folder and subfolders? Also,
can you recommend any strategy on which backups to delete and which ones
to keep? I'm running Vista Home Premium, using Backup & Restore Center
utility for the weekly backups. Thanks much in the..

Coldnorth,
I would suggest that you get an external hard drive and do your file backup
there. Between 500 GB to 1 TB, you'll never run out of space.

1. For deletion you just open your E: drive and delete whatever
files/folders you like.
2. I would keep the 3 or 4 most recent ones and a couple from a time
where you are sure your system was stable.
3. The Vista Backup/Restore is not very reliable. I would look at an
imaging program to do that for me. That is safer. Here is a discussion
of the options: ( 'Ghosting approaches - summary because of popular
demand « How-To Geek Forums'

I would also suggest you do a backup to an external drive and then use your
spare internal disk to hold all of your personal data. ie move it from your
boot drive.
You can then do more regular backups for your data easier from that disk.
As for system backups then i would use an imaging program like Acronis or
Paragon, Acronis is much more user friendly, again to an external drive.
I would do system backups weekly and Data backups daily, but thats your
choice, data is more important than your system for home use.
I would use incremental backup, this will then have a full backup set
together with incremental changes so you can restore to the latest or
earlier increment.
It also saves on disk space.
There is plenty of info on the web about backup strategy`s and its down to
your own needs as to what you decide on in the end.
If you decide on an external drive and if you have E-sata in your pc or a
spare sata socket then go for an E-sata / Usb combo drive. E-sata is faster
so use that ,and usb more compatible so you could plug it into another pc if
needed.
Good luck.
