Default DVD Player problem

Hi all I got an annoying problem in with my dvd player..

My DVD player doesn't want to read CD's, it's yes loading DVD's but not
CD's, I do not had this problem at the begin. When I put an CD it
doesn't read, if I want to open it, nothing hapens! Just an stupit blue
light keeps showing, when I restart my pc it says it's recommanded to do
an Start-up repair or something.. I only could open the DVD player with
the F8 button at the begin when my pc starts.

I explain another problem I had several weeks ago, it might have an
connection with it, I get that repair thing everyime and it doesn't
work. When my Windows starts, it shows an blue screen for 2 seconds. I
start my windows in save mode and it yes started. I was thinking, it may
be A virus so I removed Hamachi I installed before and the problem is
gone! Since, (I THINK) My DVD player is acting like strange.. but I
don't know sure.

I checked properties and those things but everything is working
corectly. Do I need an driver update?

Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service
Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.080917-1612)
Computer Case: ASUS Grey

I cannot see very good my dvd info but I see something like DVD RW and
Label Flash...

Thanks for reading and I hope you an fix for this problem. I also
apologize for my bad English, hope you understand.

Default DVD Player problem

Hi, Laro24.

My DVD player doesn't want to read CD's, it's yes loading DVD's but not
CD's, I do not had this problem at the begin.

A DVD drive has TWO lasers. One reads/writes DVD media, the other handles
CDs. It's not unusual for ONE of the lasers to burn out or malfunction
while the other is still good. It sounds like your CD laser has died.

I suppose that replacing a laser is possible but I haven't heard of anyone
doing it. Drives are so inexpensive these days that it probably will cost
less to replace the whole drive than to repair or replace that laser.

Many vendors sell a laser head-cleaning kit. I've never used one but it
might worth a try before you replace the drive - unless the drive is new
enough to be covered by warranty.
