Default Lost files in folder

I am running Vista Home Premium on a small office network and accessing
files from an older XP Pro computer. I had problems creating a
subdirectory yesterday on the XP file server (Explorer kept hanging)
from my Vista computer; today I have missing files. It appears that
somehow the bottom half of my subdirectory is missing. The files are
numbered, so I have M1 thru M8 for the AutoCAD drawing files, PDF files
and AutoCAD backup files, but no files of any type for M9 through M14.
I know that the drawing files are there; I tried backing up from my FTP
site and it asked if I wanted to copy over the existing files. In
AutoCAD, the files I have have an external reference file that doesn't
show up in the subdirectory, but is loaded into the drawing.

Any suggestions as to what is going on or how I can fix it?
