Default Can't reach one machine by VPN!

For years I have used a VPN server at work to connect several machines
at home as well as, of course, my laptop when I am on the road.
Suddenly, for no apparent reason, I cannot map to or even ping my
laptop from my main work machine at home. I can still map to the other
two machines in my house though. As far as I can see nothing has
changed. The laptop is logged into the VPN server and I can map from
the laptop but not to it. Could anyone suggest what is going on here
and how to fix it?

Thanks for this!

PS -- I can back to my main work machine from the laptop with no
problem!

Even pinging on the IP number as assigned by the router/wireless
access point doesn't work!
