Default Print to file problem

I could do this on XP, but don't remember how, and that system is no
longer available to me.

I need to establish a printer that always prints to file, using the
same path and filename without asking where. The data must be "as is",
i.e. simple text.

I remember that this involved putting the path and filename somewhere
unusual and using a special driver, a la text only.

Ihave defined a FILE printer, directed to port FILE: Print to file, but
now I'm stuck. Can anyone help?

I have Vista Home Premium, SP2 -- and have no trouble printing to my
other printers.

Solved part of the problem: I needed to add a new driver: Generic / text
only.

I still need to get this to always print to a specific file without
prompting for the name. Any ideas?

Add a new port of type "Local Port". In the upcoming dialog enter the
name of the fix file.
If you want to share the printer, the file must have write permission to
everyone.
The file will be overwritten with each print job.
If you want to use dynamically file names or use the file to execute
scripts on it, try PrintMulti. It is free for all Client OS.

The remaining part of the problem is also solved.

In the Add Printer dialog, one needs to Create a new port, the name of
which is the path and filename of the file that you want to always write
to with this printer. In my case, the driver should be Generic / text
only.

Why is this information not available in the Windows Help and Support
on my system?
