Default Windows Update Interruption

Last night I was just browsing the internet on my laptop, and Vista
closes all my programs and starts updating. This ****ed me off because
I had no warning. Before it finished I just closed the lid to my
laptop. This morning when I turned it on the screen was black. I
restarted and tried to run Vista but i kept getting a black screen. So
I restarted again and tried safe mode. It didn't even get to windows
and it said to run a Windows repair. I did that, walked away from a
computer. When I came back the computer had just restarted and it took
me back to the screen where it said there was still a problem and it
gave me the options to a) run systems repair or b) start windows
normally. I chose to run the repair again. Now I'm at a screen that
says: "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Do not
turn off your computer". It has been at this screen for at least 2, 2
1/2 hours. Is this supposed to take forever or am I ****ed? Should I
try restarting again and trying my luck?

btw I have Windows Vista Home 64 bit
