Hi
I have Vista Ultimate networked to a XP Pro through a Speedstream Ethernet Modem/Router which is said to be a 100MB/Sec When I transfer files or folder between the two PC's the best speed I get is 700 KB/Sec. Any ideas on what I can do to speed this up, could it be the AV or firewalls slowing things up? thanks, any help appreciated. regards Daniel |

Network speeds are rated in Mb(Megabits) as opposed to MB(Megabytes), a Byte is 8 bits. Throughput on a LAN is subject to some of the same speed limiters that WAN's are subject to. Uncompressed files show higher throughput speeds than highly compressed files do. You could try to move up to a Gigabit network. That's 10 times fast than 100Mb. Don't worry to much about transfers speeds in your LAN, it'll just drive you crazy. Almost as crazy as worrying about how fast your machine boots. |
