Default Microsoft Visual C++ Library

After POST and before log in, I am receiving this message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Library

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual
way.
Please contact the applications support team for more information.

The machine in question is a Toshiba Satellite, 2 gigs of RAM, Windows
Vista Home Premium 32 bit. This machine is new (just taken out of the
box Friday). I have not installed any additional software except for
Windows Updates. This error specifically began after I attempted to
install SP2; the machine rebooted after installation. The machine
cleared POST, Orb appeared in center of screen. "Please Wait" appeared;
shortly after, the notification popped up with the aformentioned error.
Upon clicking "OK" on the notification, the screen goes black, then same
screen (pre-login) appears, "Please Wait", error, rinse and repeat.
Boots normally in safe mode; I performed system restore and have the
machine running again.
I also seem to be encountering problems with Norton 360 (this came
preinstalled as a 30 day trial on the machine). I wonder if these
issues could be related.
I apologize if I am cross-posting, or in the wrong forum. This is my
first Vista machine and my first time on this forum.
