Default Wireless isn't working

So I'm sure this phrase has come up a lot, but I'd love some help with
my wireless. Alright so, I have a Compaq Presario v6415ca and I've had
this computer for nearly two years. After a few updates, suddenly my
Internet is gone. Without a reason too!
So recently I had someone fix up my computer, put memory in it.
Whatever.
When I got it back it was working perfectly.
I went off to camp for five days, came back. I installed some updates,
and played on the computer for how many hours. Then I shut it off and
when to sleep.
When I woke up again, the little wireless switch is orange.
And yes it is in fact turned on, but there is no wireless even though I
am standing next to the router. Even in my 'networks' it just says Local
Area Connection. No little icon for wireless. It's like it's completely
vanished.
By the way, I have wireless built in.
I have been going at this for a couple weeks now and there have been no
luck at all.
So, I am asking is if someone could possibly help me with my situation.

It's possible that a wireless network adapter driver is included in the
updates you are installing and they are the wrong ones. This is common with
Windows Updates and the reason why we techs say not to install drivers from
that source. Set your Windows Update to *not* automatically install updates
but instead to "download and inform when ready". Then examine the updates
available and if there are driver updates, uncheck the box next to them.

Reinstall the drivers for your wireless network adapter. You will get them
from HP's website for your specific model computer.

Hey, thanks Malke. That did work.
But guess what, it disappeared on me again!
After I reinstalled the driver, deleted some updates I wasn't supposed
to update.
My computer shut off on me because the battery died. Now suddenly it's
gone yet again.
And it says it's not installed.
Although I just installed it.

Then possibly you have hardware failure. If the computer is under warranty,
contact the maker's tech support. Or you can troubleshoot the hardware
yourself:

If it's anything except RAM or hard drive, you'll need to contact the
computer mftr.'s tech support because there's nothing else on a laptop you
can fix yourself.
