Did Word documents used to open on your computer? If so, you perhaps bought your Dell with a trial version of Microsoft Office (including Word) installed on it. If that's the case, that trial version has probably expired. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP (Windows Desktop Experience) since 2003 Please Reply to the Newsgroup |

... If you want to be able to actually modify the said document you will need a copy of Microsoft Office. The Student edition of Office 2007 can be obtained for about $100 - sometimes way less. -- Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience |

Not to argue against Open Office (which is freeware) instead of Microsoft Office should be aware that it is a different program. Yes, it has a high degree of compatibility with Microsoft Office, but it's not perfect in that regard. Depending on your needs, it may or may not be a good choice. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP (Windows Desktop Experience) since 2003 Please Reply to the Newsgroup |

Open office is OK if you do not have to import an excel or word document and expect to have 100% correct formatting and alignment. -- Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience |
