Vista Prem 64B does not see my HD camera
I recently purchased a Sony Z5U HD camera and tried connecting it to my Vista Premium 64 bit notebook. Windows does not "bong" and recognize anything is connected. If I plug in an older camera, it works fine as it should, so I know the firewire connection is working correctly. Also, I plug in the same new camera to an XP tower, and it works great. I contacted Sony and they said Microsoft did not add 64 bit codecs for HDV cameras in Vista 64 and I should downgrade the OS to 32 bit, which sounds extreme. I've googled for 64 bit codecs, and all I can find relates to playing a variety of video file types in Windows Media Player, which sounds CLOSE, but not specific enough that I know it would fix my problem. Are there any codecs I can install to allow my HDV camera to be recognized by my Vista Home Premium 64 bit OS? -- johnmurphy |

I doubt this is a codec problem. Sounds more like a driver problem. Sony just want to cover up their inability to provide a correct driver. Try on a USB port and look in Computer whether you can see the thing. Then just double click on it and copy the file. Or take the card out (if there is a card) and stick it into the card reader and copy the file. For processing you may still need the proper codec, but that is another story. As an alternative, you can convert the file to e.g..wmv with Format Factory ( 'Format Factory - Free media file format converter' (http://www.formatoz.com/) ). -- whs |
