instructions. How do I set up/configure Outlook Express & Windows Mail for Comcast email? http://www.comcast.com/customers/faq...s.ashx?Id=2288 If still no joy, turn off e-mail scanning. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the option arises. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA "Ron" wrote in message ... when I try to send emails I get the following error - The connection to the server has failed. This is why you will notice in many of the posts in this NG that it is
stated antivirus programs cause intermittent issues, with no "rhyme or reason" - okay one day, gone south the next. Sometimes a reboot will fix it, sometimes you have to uninstall, sometimes you can turn it off, reboot, turn it back on and all is fine. Sometimes it never recovers . . . . So, the best bet is to uninstall the antivirus completely and use one that does not interact with email as it is a redundancy layer of security - normal file scanning will take care of any issues in email because after all, email is just a file . . . . . Harry -- hcello I forgot to say that I had installed 8 Vista security updates prior to the original problem. Today I decided to add the updates 1 at a time. After I installed the first one I then opened Windows mail and the problem came back. So now I will try to solve the problem again. I have already shut down my email scanner and firewall. -- hcello Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

Harry -- hcello Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com I have completely removed my AVG anti virus software from my computer. I have restored my system and I still get 0x800ccc0e when trying to send mail. I believe the problem is in Windows Mail and not caused by any of the anti virus programs mentioned in this forum. The common thread is Windows Mail. Since my laptop was preloaded with Vista Home Basic when I purchased it, I have no DVD to install from. Others on this forum are probably in the same boat. So I don't believe Microsoft will come up with a fix and have purchased Vista Home Premium to download to a DVD and do an upgrade install. Hopefully that will solve my problem. -- hcello Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

I could not do an upgrade install. Instead as a work-around I opened a gmail account. While I was at it I decided to download Google Chrome. I have found out something very interesting. I chose Chrome as my default browser instead of Internet Explorer 8. Lo and behold Windows Mail is now working correctly. Whether I used Windows 98, XP an now Vista when doing something I have received messages saying that IE and Outlook/Windows Mail use some things in common. Whatever was/is the cause Mail is now working. -- hcello Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |
