Default can not send emails

I haven't been able to send emails for months. My internet provider and
router has been checked and everything is ok on those ends.

Here is my error message and it is the same for anyone I try to send to.

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '. Subject 'test',
Account: 'pop-server.neo.rr.com (1)', Server: 'smtp-server.neo.rr.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530 Authentication is required before
sending [R0107005]', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530, Error
Number: 0x800CCC78

Make sure you have send authentication enabled.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
Enable the "My server requires authentication" option.

Two things to try. Maybe one or the other, or both. (Or neither). Try all
combinations.

Tools | Accounts | Mail Account | Properties,

In the Servers Tab, check: My server requires authentication.

In the Advanced Tab, change the SMTP port from 25 to 587.

Adding to Bruce's suggestion, if you change the port to 587 you will
probably need to check the SSL box there too.

I don't think that server supports SSL.
Also, changing to port 587 should not be necessary since the
error message clearly shows that the server is listening and
answering on port 25.

I will respond in your own (separate) thread. It is always best to start a
new thread unless you are continuing to add to your own existing thread.
