Hello all. I have successfully installed the HP Universal Print Driver on my Windows Vista computer for use with my HP Laserjet 4100 printer. When I go to print, the printer shows "1" in the queue as if it is going to send the data to the printer but then quickly goes to "0" as if the document was printed. The printer doesn't even blink. The printer works fine (if in most cases) if I use the PCL 5 print driver in Vista but I need to use the HP Universal Print Driver for various other issue I'm having printing from Vista to this printer. Any idea what I can do to find out why the print job is spooled then quickly removed? Any help would be much appreciated. -- ca689 Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

I don't have an answer but I am finding that the new HP "universal" print
driver has some universal problems. While it is kind of HP to continue to support older printers with new OSes this driver has some peculiarities in my experience. On a Win7 64 bit machine I find that if I close a Word 2007 document, which has already been saved, while the printer is still churning Word 2007 will invariably freeze. If I wait until the print job completes there are no freezes. Since the HP Universal driver seems to be the problem, although the utter crud programming that Microsoft shovels into Office is doubtless a factor (don't get me started), I have to change my habits or dump my perfectly functional ten year old printer. I do not experience these freezes when I print to a different printer over the office network. I would not get another HP as I would have to use the "universal" driver. |
