Default XP Upgrade

I am trying to upgrade XP to Vista. After the information gathering process
finishes I get a message to the effect that "upgrade installation disabled -
cannot determine if another operating system is present - fix boot record and
run again". I do not have another operating system installed. Anyone know
what is going on here and how I should proceed? Thanks.

Hi Ed,

To upgrade from XP to Vista with an Upgrade disk, you must start from within
a running XP installation, you cannot do it by booting to the Vista disk or
by "showing" the installer an XP disk as a qualifier.
