Does anyone know how to fix this? At startup I get this USB over current error! Below that it directs me to Press F1 to continue,F2 to enter SETUP. This is a Dell Inspiron 530s desktop computer: 150GB HDD 2GB Ram Processor Intel Celeron CPU 2.00GHZ 32-bit operating system SP2 Windows Vista Basic Also, I'm trying to install a wireless adapter but it won't let me.After preparing to install I get this: unable to save file: C:\\Windows\{D9fAE986-A4C1-4A2D-8B20-60F92 Wireless USB Utility.msi The system cannot find the path specified. |

Totally ignorant here but my $0.02 is that something is wrong with an attached USB device. Sounds like it wants more than the 500Ma the port is supposed to have. That would likely make the device not work properly. Have you tried your various USB devices on another pc. Is there some power supply not working properly or became unattached etc. Try removing each device and see what happens, e.g. BIOS error goes away. |

Another possibility is that the OP is using an unpowered USB hub and the total current of the devices attached to the hub is over 500 ma. -- Gene E. Bloch (Stumbling Bloch) |

Bloch (Stumbling Bloch) Yea, see that all the time with people buying hubs that are self powered but come without the power supply and they don't think ... That said, if I remember correctly from my own experience at the time, such a case doesn't provide an error message but rather either device doesn't work or isn't properly recognized once inside Windows. Original poster suggests it's the BIOS displaying message which at the least suggests BIOS can tell some device (agreed likely a hub with multiple devices) is trying to get more than the 500Ma spec demands. |

OK, I was unaware of how the OS talks about an overloaded hub. I'm just so good that I never have done that :-) Anyway, the OP has some info to work with. -- Gene E. Bloch (Stumbling Bloch) |

I will unplug all devices in the morning and see what happens. If message disappears, then I'll connect one at a time and see which is causing the problem. Thanks to all who have posted. Keith |

Keith Can you open the case and unplug the USB ports one at a time? Might be a shorted USB socket. Jim |
