Cannot Modify Indexed Locations for Windows Indexing Options in Vista
I am having problems with Windows Search Indexing using excessive amounts of CPU and slowing down my system and want to decrease the number of locations and/or file extensions being indexed to see if this helps the problem. However, when I try to modify the indexed locations (Control Panel | Indexing Options | Modify), the Change Selected Locations pane is empty (i.e., there are no check boxes to enable or disable). If I click the Show All Locations button, my hard drive chugs away for about 15 seconds and then both the Indexed Locations and Indexing Options windows close and prevent me from making any changes. Whenever this failure happens I simultaneously generate a COM Surrogate error that can be viewed in Control Panel | Problem Reports and Solutions with the following details: Problem signature Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: DllHost.exe Application Version: 6.0.6000.16386 Application Timestamp: 4549b14e Fault Module Name: ShellvRTF.dll Fault Module Version: 1.1.0.8 Fault Module Timestamp: 46d83e7c Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 000057ab OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3 Locale ID: 4105 Additional Information 1: 65ce Additional Information 2: f3639ff676d879619c14ca889d32cd4c Additional Information 3: 9792 Additional Information 4: 137aaa9fce82e760bb8dec1aeefbbef9 I’ve tried restoring the indexing defaults and rebuilding the entire index (Control Panel | Indexing Options | Advanced | Index Settings tab | Restore Defaults) but I still can’t modify the indexed locations. I've checked my user account (Control Panel | User Accounts) and confirmed that my account type is Administrator, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the UAC does not always recognize that my account has Administrator rights. -- lmacri ------------------------------------------------------------------------ lmacri's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/119818.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-fil...nt/1333347.htm http://forums.techarena.in |
