Default Access from XP denied to optical drives on Vista machine

Trying to setup a new netbook running Win XP Home SP3 to access the optical
drives installed on the Vista Biz SP2 linked via ethernet. Both machines are
in the same Workgroup.

On the Vista machine, I have:
- Setup the optical drive G: as a share using the Advance button. The
Network Path shows \\Vistamachinename\Drive_G_Sharename. The drive G
shows up as a Network resource and the shared icon is added to the Drive G
icon in the My Computer window.
- Permissions for the Share are set to Allow Full Control, Change and Read
for the Everyone Group. Also added the NETWORK group and Guests group to the
list, with the same full permissions.

On the XP netbook machine, I:
- Ran the Setup a Home or Small Office Network wizard.
- Successfully added shared printers that are hosted by the Vista machine
and printed from them.
- Can access shared documents found on the Vista machine with full rights
to read, edit, delete, etc.
- Can see all the shared resources on the Vista machine (shared printers,
Public folder, Printers & Faxes folder) and the shared DVD drive. But when I
try to connect to the DVD drive (with a disc installed in the drive), I get
the error message "\\Vistamachinename\Drive_G_Sharename is not
accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource, etc."

A couple basic questions:
-- SHOULD I be able to access the optical drive(s) on a networked computer?
I ask because just about all Help discussion on Windows and MS sites talks
about folder and printing sharing; I can't find a specific reference to
sharing/accessing optical drives.
-- If the answer is yes, what steps should I take to make this work properly.

TIA for any & all help.

--Scott
