Hello everyone! I have a very strange problem and no one seems able to help. Here are some necessary specifications: Cable Modem: Arris CM450 Router: Linksys Wireless-G Router WRT54GL (DD-WRT software) Firmwa DD-WRT v24-sp2 (07/22/09) std - build 12548M NEWD Eko 1TB Lacie NetworkSpace Ethernet drive Laptop: Acer Aspire 5633WLMi Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit + Service Pack 2 802.11 a/b/g Wireless LAN: Intel RPO/Wireless 3945 ABG The issue: My 1TB LaCie NetworkSpace is attached to my Linksys WRT54GL router via Ethernet cable. Whenever I try to copy files from my NetworkSpace over onto my laptop (wirelessy), my cable modem disconnects from the internet and 3 green LEDs start to blink (Power, Online and Cable). I am left with no internet access. However, as soon as the file has finished copying my modem reconnects to the internet again. All LEDs go back to their normal state again and I regain access to the internet. However, this does not happen on a wired connection from my laptop to the router. This problem is noticeable on 2 laptops and also on Ubuntu 9.04 and Windows Vista. I have contacted my ISP (Chello UPC in Vienna, Austria) but they were unable to detect the issue. ipconfig /all Code: -------------------- Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : alhnbb Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : TAP-Win32 Adapter V9 Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-FF-30-58-C7-C1 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Con nection Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-18-DE-AF-76-09 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.6(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Mittwoch, 07. Connect the laptop using a cat5 ethernet wire. See if the problem is the same. That will at least narrow down whether it's a wireless issue or not. What network configuration is being used on the Lacie unit? Can you bring up it's config page and see what it's setup to use? Try using the laptop with a wired connection and report back. -Bill Kearney "ABH83" wrote in message ... Hello everyone! I have a very strange problem and no one seems able to help. Hi
Is it a LaCie related problem. I.e. transfer of similar data computer to computer without using the NAS works OK. If it is a LaCie problem, make sure that what ever protocol it uses his also used by the computer and its configuration is correct. Jack (MS, MVP-Networking). "ABH83" wrote in message ... I just disabled TAP-Win32 Adapter V9, Windows Firewall and Avast Antivirus but I'm still experiencing the very same problem! -- ABH83 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ABH83's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/142317.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-v...rk/1256179.htm http://forums.techarena.in How are you copying the files? FTP, Windows networking or software that came with LeCie? I don't think it's the firewall or antivirus software. The cable modem is responding (quite badly) to the traffic between the computer and network storage device. This is in strange in itself. Is the Arris CM450 connected to the ethernet port labeled Internet on the Linksys WRT54GL or one of the four numbered ethernet ports? |

Thank you for all the swift replies! Bill Kearney;4644669 Wrote: Connect the laptop using a cat5 ethernet wire. See if the problem is the same. That will at least narrow down whether it's a wireless issue or not. What network configuration is being used on the Lacie unit? Can you bring up it's config page and see what it's setup to use? Try using the laptop with a wired connection and report back. -Bill Kearney When I connect the laptop using ethernet cable I no longer have this issue. I guess its because copying files on a wired connection usually takes me about 2 mins as opposed to copying files wirelessly which take me about 20-60 mins. Network configuration on the LaCie is set to automatic (DHCP). 'Jack [MVP-Networking Wrote: ;4644672']Hi Is it a LaCie related problem. I.e. transfer of similar data computer to computer without using the NAS works OK. If it is a LaCie problem, make sure that what ever protocol it uses his also used by the computer and its configuration is correct. Jack (MS, MVP-Networking). Yes it seems this is related to the LaCie drive only. I did not notice any internet disturbance when copying files form other computers. However, when I copy files form other computers it will slow down the "host" computer (the one i'm copying from) imensly... almost unusable. Is that normal? I also use the web browser to access admin controls. In the user manual it recommends installing the software. But from what I can tell the software doesn't do much. I used Windows to map network drives. So I guess I'm using Windows networking. Yes the Arris Cable modem is connected to the Ethernet port labeled internet (IN) and the NetworkSpace is conected to the Ethernet port 2 (OUT). -- ABH83 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ABH83's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/142317.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-v...rk/1256179.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

Traffic between LaCie and your computer shouldn't be reaching the cable-modem at all. Can you list which IP addresses are being assigned to which device? Linksys Computer LaCie Ariss You should be able to get all the info from the Linksys. Login to the Linksys and click on the Status tab. This will give IP configuration coming from the Ariss to Linksys. Under Status, you should see Router | Local Network | Wireless Click on Local Network and click on the DHCP Clients Table button for the other devices... assuming the menu is similar to the Linksys WRT54G I am using. |

Normally, it is possible to set the wireless "connections" to be "separate" from the other connections. On standard firmwares, this cam be known as "Wlan Protection." |
