If I am not mistaken, Conexant got out of the sound chip business. They
sold that portion to some other company who is not supporting a lot of the
Conexant line. I heard somewhere that Dell had some drivers for the
Conexant sound chips.

Laptops have propriotry items installed or generic ones remodelled to
suit
the specific laptop model so 99.9% of the time drivers need to be
supplied
by the manufacturer of the laptop, not MS and not the manufacturer of the
item concerned.

Did you run windows upgrade advisor before installation?
What did it say?

Your options are to scour HP's web site and pick drivers for similar
models
to yours with vista drivers and try those, try the sound device
manufacturers web site and do the same, or I'm afraid live with the fact
that your machine is only capable of running XP and wait until you
upgrade
to run Vista.

I went to Device Manager, right-clicked the Sound Controller, and

it.
Sadly, the sound is still choppy.

The manufacturer of the computer (HP Laptop) doesn't have the
drivers
because they don't service the model I have. (I upgraded to Vista,
against
HP's suggestions.) However, everything else on my computer works
fine.
The
audio is the only part that's bad at the moment.

Just so you guys know, I have a new Dell Dimension 9200 (desktop) with Vista
Ultimate pre-installed and I am having the same problem. I contacted support
and spent 2 and 1/2 hours with them on this issue with no results.

So it is probably not a laptop, or upgrade problem.

Dang! Same thing here! Doesn't do it on my XP Pro box, but the Vista Home
Prem. Says Media Changing and then stutters and stammers through the entire
WMV File that works perfect on my Zune.

and I get "Media Changing" at the bottom. Also, at the end of every song I
get the same "choppiness and the song starts to break apart and jitter before
the next song is able to start smoothly. It's driving me crazy. I tried
reinstalling the original Vista sound drivers with no success. Everything was
flawless on XP SP2.

it was "Disable System Effects" under the effects tab.
