My firewall blocks my network printer from working,and works fine when the
firewall is turned off.So I am wondering how to find the ip address or
something that i can add to the firewall rules to allow it to work.??

Hi,

In Firewall settings - Exceptions there is File and Printer Sharing - check
if is checked.

Besides in Control Panel\System and Maintenance\Administrative Tools in
Windows Firewall with Advanced Security console. When you select root item
on tree - properties ... you can select what will be monitored.

If the "Network Printer" is "shared" from another Windows computer, the File
and Printer Sharing exception should be all you need.

If the "Network Printer" is defined as a "local printer", it will be
associated with a "Standard TCP/IP Port". You can find the IP address from
that port's configuration.

1. Start, Printers
2. right click File, Run as Administrator, Server Properties (respond to
prompt)
3. select the Ports tab
4. select the Port that has the subject printer associated with it; click
Configure Port...

However, the Windows firewall does not usually interfere with printing
because the network connection is originated from the Vista computer. What
make and model of printer is this? Are you using a third party firewall
product?
