Default Vista can't see other computer

I have compact wireless-g broadband router on my Vista machine. I am trying
to connect to a windows 98 second edit computer. Everything worked fine when
I had XP. now my vista computer can't see the windows 98 computer yet the
windows 98 computer says it made a connection but it really hasn't because it
can't access the internet.

Any help would be appreciated

Can you ping each other by IP? Have enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP?
