Top 10 things I hate about Vista
10 - Dialog boxes keep popping up, even after I click "do not show me this message again" 9 - When I connect my digital camera, Vista automatically opens MS Word (??) and then tells me that "Word doesn't support this device" (!!) XP automatically opened my digital camera software (Zoom Browser) -- now that was smart. 8 - My printer (a Samsung ML-1740) is apparently not supported. At least, it didn't work out of the box. The same printer is automatically configured in LINUX! Jesus! I thought hardware compatibility and ease of use was the main benefit of Windows! I guess I was wrong. Maybe it's greater access to viruses and spyware? 7 - It's a power hog. Despite changing the power settings, it still kills my notebook battery at least 30% faster than XP. 6 - It commonly drops my wireless network connection, which I cannot get back without rebooting. I very rarely lost this connection in XP, and never had to reboot to reconnect. 5 - My hard drive seems to be in use continuously, even when the system is idle. WHY? 4 - My bluetooth, integrated camera and fingerprint reader are recognized by the system and "working properly" according to device manager, but they don't work at all. 3 - Often after resuming, my sound card hangs, producing a continuous "skipping" noise. In order to fix this, I have to reboot. 2 - Vista keeps telling me that it's "blocked some startup programs" but won't let me unblock these programs manually. It also won't let me suppress or ignore this message, it keeps popping up! 1 - MS doesn't offer a way to revert to XP (even though the installation process spends a lot of time copying my old XP files to windows.old -- what's the point of backing up old system files if there's no way to undo the upgrade??) I can't believe that MS calls this a "release candidate." It's terrible. If you're thinking of upgrading, think again. Vista is bulky, unstable, and as of yet I haven't discovered any features that make it worth the trouble. Stay away! (In case any developers at MS are reading this, I'm using a Vaio SZ-120 P/B notebook, with all of the standard hardware. I hope, for your sake, that you can build a better product.) ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. 10. I kind of agree with you in a different way - too many dialog boxes
that you have to go around - it really hurts being productive. You spend more time doing security things and maintenance to your computer now than you do actually using your computer. 9. Not having this issue here. 8. My Canon i560 works great in Vista. Vista picked it up and installed it right away, without any discs - XP couldn't do that. 7. Not on a laptop, so I can't tell you what the results are here. 6. Not on a wireless connection - I'm on a LAN, so again, can't tell you the results here. 5. My hard drive seems fine here. It is a little bit more active in Vista than XP, but not a lot more. 4. My computer does not have bluetooth. 3. When I resume my computer from sleep, my screen resolution always defaults back to 800x600, so I have to go in the properties and change it back to 1280x1024 - annoying. 2. Ditto here. It does this to msconfig after changing a setting and my ATI Catalyst Control Center. It gets on my nerves. Normal users are going to have troubles with this. 1. I see your point, but it's always better to do a clean install anyway. There are good things and bad things about Vista, I would call Vista 'Beta 3' right now. It's getting pretty stable and a lot faster than Beta 2, but it still has quite a few glitches. I know a release candidate will likely never be perfect, but it should be close. I feel that Vista has a lot of potential, but it will only be really good if they can smash some of these bugs. I hope MS spends more time on Vista, even though it doesn't sound like it. We're only a month away from when MS is expected to have Vista go gold now. I really hope they can pull it off, and have a quality product. Seeing how drastically things improved since Beta 2 in only a few months, I guess it's possible. "Graham" wrote in message ... Bet you are using the Vista 86. Your i560 wouldn't work on Vista 64.
One problem in this group is telling which version (86 or 64) a poster is talking about. "Travis King" wrote in message ... 10. Top 15 things I hate about Vista
1 - My printer was not supported, even though it came with my PC, when I bought it. So I had to download a vista compatible driver, & now the printer may or may not work, when you need it. Same my scanner & tablet. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!) 2 - It keeps giving dialog boxes that says "USB device not recognized" even though my printer, tablet, ect. has been loaded with the correct drivers, that I had to download, because they didn't come with the devices. It also occasionally says the device "is not" installed, when it decides to work, & I can go open then the printers/other devices folder & it is there. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!) 3 - It commonly drops my internet connection, which I cannot get back without rebooting. I never had to reboot to reconnect with XP. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING & ANNOYING!) 4 - When I connect my digital camera, or music player, Vista automatically opens a folder & starts downloading everything that's on them, even when I don't want it too. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING & ANNOYING!) 5 - Dialog boxes keep popping up, even after I click "do not show me this message again" (This is EXTREMELY ANNOYING!) 6 - My hard drive seems to be in use continuously, even when the system is idle. WHY? 7 - Whenever I go to troubleshoot why a device or program isn't wanting to work, it says it's "working properly" according to device manager, but they don't work at all or might work 5 minutes later & it seems to "pick" what program it wants to work with. (I. E. If it works it might work with word pad 1 minute then 5 minutes later it might not & work with notepad then) (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING & ANNOYING!) 8 - Vista keeps telling me that it's "blocked some startup programs" but won't let me unblock these programs manually. It also won't let me suppress or ignore this message, it keeps popping up! (This is EXTREMELY ANNOYING!) 9 - I keep getting program error messages, that MS doesn't have any solutions to fix them. (This is EXTREMELY ANNOYING!) 10 - I can't open more than one window/tab/ect. on my browsers or messenger without them closing or messing up. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING & ANNOYING!) 11 - I can be in the middle of working on something & the monitor goes off then comes back on & a dialog box/bubble pops up & says "The display driver failed, & has recovered" & it does this, I'd say 30-50 time in a day. When the display driver is up to date & Vista compatible. (This is EXTREMELY ANNOYING! Because when the monitor comes back on I most likly have a messed up art piece or document!) 12 - It puts downloads & scanned things into whatever folder it wants to, even though, I've set the folders that I want them to go to. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING & ANNOYING! Because then I have to search for them!) 13 - It may or may not, run games, art programs, ect. when you need them to, or they might not work properly, even though they are Vista compatible. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING & ANNOYING!) 14 - It's hard to find compatible security, other softwares, games, or devices that are deemed "compatible" with Vista. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!) 15 - It may or may not read burned CDs, USB, devices, or flash drives. with files, music, photos, ect. saved on older windows versions. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The bad thing is, in 2007 "ALL NEW PCS, MACS, ect." comes with some form of Vista on them & I was unfortunate enough to have to get 1 new PC at that time. I had to have a new PC, I was missing out on a lot of waiting art projects. MS if you read this, VISTA SUCKS! You should send out XP on ALL new PCs, MACS, ect. with the option of an upgrade to Vista. Not just put it on there & expect it to work right & people love it! It's so full of glitches, & messes up hardware, software, ect. |

So I had to download a vista compatible driver, & now the printer may or may not work, when you need it. Same my scanner & tablet. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!) My eight-year old printer works fine after installing the Vista driver - did you research this before you bought Vista? 2 - It keeps giving dialog boxes that says "USB device not recognized" even though my printer, tablet, ect. has been loaded with the correct drivers, that I had to download, because they didn't come with the devices. It also occasionally says the device "is not" installed, when it decides to work, & I can go open then the printers/other devices folder & it is there. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!) Did you research the hardware compatibility first? 3 - It commonly drops my internet connection, which I cannot get back without rebooting. I never had to reboot to reconnect with XP. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING & ANNOYING!) Doesn't do that here..... 4 - When I connect my digital camera, or music player, Vista automatically opens a folder & starts downloading everything that's on them, even when I don't want it too. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING & ANNOYING!) Have you set the Autoplay option that comes up? Obviously not. 5 - Dialog boxes keep popping up, even after I click "do not show me this message again" (This is EXTREMELY ANNOYING!) WHAT "dialog boxes"? 6 - My hard drive seems to be in use continuously, even when the system is idle. WHY? Don't know - have you looked at Process Manager to find out? (Sheeeesh) 7 - Whenever I go to troubleshoot why a device or program isn't wanting to work, it says it's "working properly" according to device manager, but they don't work at all or might work 5 minutes later & it seems to "pick" what program it wants to work with. (I. E. If it works it might work with word pad 1 minute then 5 minutes later it might not & work with notepad then) (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING & ANNOYING!) sigh I presume you upgraded from XP to Vista....... 8 - Vista keeps telling me that it's "blocked some startup programs" but won't let me unblock these programs manually. It also won't let me suppress or ignore this message, it keeps popping up! (This is EXTREMELY ANNOYING!) Doesn't happen here........ 9 - I keep getting program error messages, that MS doesn't have any solutions to fix them. (This is EXTREMELY ANNOYING!) WHAT "program error messages"? 10 - I can't open more than one window/tab/ect. on my browsers or messenger without them closing or messing up. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING & ANNOYING!) And have you posted this in the relevant news group? 11 - I can be in the middle of working on something & the monitor goes off then comes back on & a dialog box/bubble pops up & says "The display driver failed, & has recovered" & it does this, I'd say 30-50 time in a day. When the display driver is up to date & Vista compatible. (This is EXTREMELY ANNOYING! Because when the monitor comes back on I most likly have a messed up art piece or document!) Sounds like a video card problem - did you research this before buying? 12 - It puts downloads & scanned things into whatever folder it wants to, even though, I've set the folders that I want them to go to. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING & ANNOYING! Because then I have to search for them!) RUBBISH! I have NEVER known ANY OS (whether Windows, Linux or Unix) put downloads into any folder other than the one you tell it to.... 13 - It may or may not, run games, art programs, ect. when you need them to, or they might not work properly, even though they are Vista compatible. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING & ANNOYING!) Oh dear, so sad. 14 - It's hard to find compatible security, other softwares, games, or devices that are deemed "compatible" with Vista. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!) Rubbish. 15 - It may or may not read burned CDs, USB, devices, or flash drives. with files, music, photos, ect. saved on older windows versions. (This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!) That happens with ANY OS if the CD is not finalised - NEVER in my experience with any other sort of removable media. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The bad thing is, in 2007 "ALL NEW PCS, MACS, ect." comes with some form of Vista on them & I was unfortunate enough to have to get 1 new PC at that time.
