In XP my router created an INternet Connection icon in Network Connections
ans with the tray icon enabled was able to show you the speed of this
connection, ie the actual internet connection speed and not the port speed.

I can't find anyway of seeing this now except to log in to the router to
check the speed, is there anyway of getting this back. My router is UPNP
enabled and I have to assume Vista is by default as I can find know way of
confirming if UPNP is on within Vista.

My router appears in the Network Devices and shows it is connected using
Internet Connection but I can't find this actual connection unlike XP.

I'm sorry you're experiencing trouble. I'm not sure I follow, but let's see
first if this doesn't solve your issue. Right click on the network icon,
select Network and Sharing Center. From there, select Manage Network
Connections (on the left, in the navigation bar), and then right click on the
connection you want the speed for, and select Status. That should present
the dialog you're familiar with.

I appreciate what you are saying Kim(MS), I am aware of this and yes it shows
the speed of the network port as 100Mbps. This is not what I am after.

My having UPNP enabled in Windows XP and Internet Gateway Device Discovery
Control a new Network Icon was created in Network Connections entitled
Internet Connection. YOu had an option in that connection to place an icon on
the desktop and it would report the routers current connection speed to your
network provider, for example 2.5Mbps, in Vista this behaviour does not seem
to occur.

I can see an icon for my router in Network and if I select properties it
tells me it is connected using Internet Connection, having said that I can
find no connection for Internet Connection in Network Connections.

Therefore I want to know if there is anyway to once again get my ROUTERs
current connection speed displayed in the System Tray as it was in Windows XP
and also how to tell if UPNP is enabled in VISTA.
