Default Slow network with Vista, XP was Ok

Hi all!

I have Windows Vista Ultimate (x86) installed on my machine, and I'm
suffering severe network problems at home after installing Vista, with
XP everything worked fine. The following situation:

Win2k3 server / network router, which takes care of internet routing
and filesharing. This PC is a Sempron 3000+ with 2 gig mem and 2 RAID0
Maxtor 200gig. The internal network card of the server is a 3com
gigabit NIC, connected on a 3com gigabit ethernet switch.

Workstation:
Windows vista ultimate (X86), including all patches
Asus M2N SLI Deluxe
AMD 3800+ X2
2 Gig Memory
Asus Nvidia 7600 GS Silent
Using the Asus' onboard NIC (latest NForce drivers)

When downloading, copying files from the server, browsing in IE or
Firefox, my network is very, very, very slow (200 kilobyte / second
MAX). On my laptop, copying files from the server share to it's local
is consuming the full 100mbit (laptop maximum).

This concludes to me that my workstation is the bottleneck "somewhere".
I have already tried the trick with the autotuning:
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=off

But it didn't work out. My netsh global is now showing the following:
TCP Global Parameters
----------------------------------------------
Receive-Side Scaling State : enabled
Chimney Offload State : enabled
Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level : disabled
Add-On Congestion Control Provider : none
ECN Capability : disabled
RFC 1323 Timestamps : disabled

Netstat shows the following:

I have the exact same situation - and no solution yet. I'm going to
try a different router and switch as soon as I can, but I'm not
confident that's the problem. Trying to grab files off of my Win 2000
server or NAS Buffalo drive is way toooo slow, I reached about 8MB/sec
today. I've tried every solution I can find including the netsh...
command. Running Vista Ultimate factory installed on a Dell desktop
with an Intel gigabit card...if you hear of anything let me know; I'll
do the same. I'll get a new router later in the week - using an old
Linksys now. DHCP on the vista box...

I won't guarantee that this will resolve your particular problems but at
least MS is now aware of some network-related file access problems in Vista
RTM. Yesterday they released the following hotfix article that addresses at
least one of the problems:

https://premier.microsoft.com/kb/931770/en-us

or

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931770/en-us

for those of you without MS premier access.

If you think this issue affects you, you can obtain the hotfix from PSS.

Regards,

Stuart.
