This is a continuation of my last post. When I plugged the scanner in,
it saif that it automatically loaded the driver. However, I am not able
to even load the software, Precision Pro 3.1. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

By the way... did you notice that the people you are trying to get
help from stopped posting FEBRUARY OF 2007?

Does it really matter? Sadbum52 has indicated he too is having the same
problem as the OP. Granted he could have covered this very same topic in a
new thread, but would that get any real responses that much sooner?

Try using XP Compatibility mode for the all software installation. In the
exe file properties choose XP Compatible. Then run as admin.

I can't get my ScanJet 5400C to work either. I have a brand new PC with
Vista Home Premium.

Any help would be greatly apprecated.

Thanks

Check the scanjet website for a Vista driver for this scanner. If there is
none, there is only a small chance that an XP driver will work. The other
software you mentioned is not necessary to use your scanner if you can get
the driver to load. Without a Vista driver, there isn't much likelihood that
it will work.

Look in control panel for scanners & cameras and see if it is there. If so,
that is likely all you need. Also check device manager for imaging devices,
and see if the driver is installed. If so, than most software that can
acquire an image can run the scanner. Good luck!

That worked for me with my scanner. I installed the XP Twain5 driver
and all is good.

My Scanjet 5400c works with the Precisionscan Pro 3.13 in XP
compatibility mode, but I can't get the Copy Utility to work. That is,
the software does not seem to receive inputs from the scanner when the
button (with an image of a printer on it) is pressed.

Does anyone else have this experience with their "functioning"
Precisionscan Pro using Vista? Has anyone solved this problem? Thanks.

Default HP Scanjet 5400c problems

I tried the suggestions given here, but it still won't work! First,
while installing the software, I get an error message that on DLL can
not be registered. I choose the option Ignore and the installation
finishes in a normal way. When starting the program, it starts normally,
but gives me the following error message: Sorry, scanner could not be
initialized /scanner not found/

I think the main problem is, that the PC can not recognize/install the
scanner. When I connect the USB, the PC detects a new hardware, tries to
install, searches for drivers in the net, also I have tried pointing to
the folder with the HP program - but in the end the new hardware can not
be installed.

So... what to do, how can I make it run? Thanks!

I dont believe HP has released a Vista driver for this printer.
You could try this program, the trial, and see if it works, before you buy
