Robert L, I am having network issues also. I followed your links and its
advice. I cannot ping my XP computers from my vista machine and everytime I try to connect it stated it cannot find the computer. The XP computer makes it out to the internet fine. I cannot ping the xp computer or the vista machine from the xp machine?. Did not find any help that would lead me to a conclusing on how to handle this communication issue. Thanks "Robert L [MVP - Networking]" wrote: Can you ping other computers by IP? In this case, I would check the firewall or any security software first.

If it turn off my trend micro firewall i can ping the computers. My network
was fine when it was all XP so I just don't get it. I can see my other computers on the network, however when I try to connect I receive a message that the computer in this case arianne-laptop is not there. Check the name and spelling. Diagnose tells me the same thing. Any thoughts? ... Other than downloading vista for the other machines? Thanks "Robert L [MVP - Networking]" wrote: Can you ping other computers by IP? JB,
Did you ever figure out how to resolve this? I have the same issue in that I can see the networked XP machine in the map, but not elsewhere. I have 2 Vista computers and 3 XP computers and a Xerox IP printer. All 3
XP's work fine. One Vista works fine (can see all 3 XPs). The other Vista can see only the Internet (It shows the router on the map, but none of the information that is displayed by the Vista that works). It however can ping everything. I've gone through all the trouble shooters, I've compared every network and firewall setting I can find between the two Vista's the second simply cannot access anyting on the network. It can't even see the IP printer when I manually give it the IP address. I've installed the LLTD on one XP computer, but it isn't necessary for the one that works and doesn't help the one that does??!!?!?!!!!! None of the network diagnostics "find" any issues. Furstrating doesn't begin to describe it. I haven't had this much problem networking a Windows computer since before Windows for Workgroups. Any ideas what else to try?
