Default Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Windows Vista Compatibilit

Greetings All,
I recently purchased a DELL Inspiron 1501 Laptop with MS Windows Vista Home
Premium installed along with 1GB of RAM, and the ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 Video
Graphics Card. I changed the screen to 1024x768 from 1280x1024. I tried
installing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and keep receiving an error
as follows:

- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has stopped working. A problem
caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program
and notify you if a solution is available.

If anyone out there has any kind of suggestions or solutions, please
forward. Thank You.

I had the same problem. Here's how I got around it:

1) Uninstall KOTOR completely.

2) Insert the 1st disc, but DON'T run the installer from the autorun launcher.

3) Go Explore the disc, and manually run Setup.exe IN COMPATIBILITY MODE for
WinXP. (right-click, properties, compatibility)

4) After installing, make sure swkotor.exe is running in Compatibility mode
for XP AND is being run as an administrator. (right-click, properties,
compatibility). Then run it either through the launcher or by
double-clicking on swkotor.exe.

5) If you get an error about Securom (every so often), just run it again.

I have a Toshiba Satellite P305D running Vista X64 and KotOR installed
and runs ingame just fine. The problem that I have is that it crashes
when trying to play the videos, which is solved by disabling the movies.
I would like to see the videos though because i have not played the
original KotOR and would like to not miss out on the story line.
