Default CHIC eHome Infrared Transceiver

I am moving a current MCE 2005 system to Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I am
connecting the eHome USB Infrared Transceiver to the Vista machine. When I
visit the Windows Update site, it suggests that the CHIC mouse needs to be
updated. However, this device is actually the CHIC eHome Transceiver, not a
mouse. Additionally the device driver update for identified device will not
actually update, it fails every time. Does MS have an updated device driver
for this transceiver? Wouldn't it be appropriate to have the update site
correctly identify this MS hardware and provide an appropriate driver for it?

I believe that Vista 'sees' this as a mouse...I just got about 11 updates
(mostly for Office) and one of them was a recommended update to the CHIC
'mouse'. Took me a moment to figure out that it was eHome IR device. I
remember seeing that in the RC1 version of Vista as well. If you are
hesitant, set a restore point and then install the update.

I got the same message about the CHIC mouse and mistakenly let it install.
After I did that then any time I connected another mouse the installation
would fail and I would have to manually install the drivers.

I got rid of it and have now set the update to be "ignored"

So, it actually installed on your machine? I guess that I was lucky that it
was never successfully installed on mine. I am concerned that MS Update
mistakenly identifies this MS hardware and wishes to install an inappropriate
driver for it. It would seem that MS should be aware of this, especially
since it was identified as a problem in RC1 of Vista, and fix it in the Vista
Update area.

MS, care to comment?

Go to the Microsoft Website and look for the device's vista driver for it.
It not advisable to use the update function of the operating system.
