Default Home WLAN between XP and Vista

I have a wireless LAN between two PCs (running XP), connected to Internet
through a wireless modem/router.
Now, i bought a notebook running Vista. I was very happy and I thought it
would have been VERY easy to connect it to the internet! Well, it's not my
case.
The wireless LAN is recognized by Vista, but when I try to connect, I get
the message that... the connection has failed, and I can't connect to the
internet. When I click on the tray icon, it tells me "just local access"
(maybe the message isn't really the same, but I'm translating from Italian
version). In the connection center, the connection is called "non-identified
network". I think, but this is only an opinion of mine, that there is some
trouble with the Ip assignment (setted as "automatic" in Ipv4 protocol, just
like the other 2 PCs running XP). In fact, the two PCs' IP are 192.168.0.100
and following, as setted in the router configuration; but the notebook IP is
something like 169.254.x.x. I tried many ways but I really don't know how to
make it work. Thanks for attention!

I've done much the same thing. The two XP computers see the VISTA computer,
but can't access anything on it. The VISTA computer sees the other two
computers. If you're running ME, forget about VISTA. I have a third
computer running ME and when I set up VISTA, the ME computer received a
notification of the VISTA's arrival, but can't access anything on it.

VISTA..........what a joke.

Hi
I have something similar going on but try this to get on the internet.
Got to : Network and sharing center
Go to : Diagnose and repair
select : Automatically get new IP setting for network adapter
See if that gets you on the internet.
