Default Accessing Data on External Hard Drive

Usual problem ... PC died, no back-up. Removed hard drive and purchased a
CompUSA USB 2.o External Hard Drive Enclosure. Instructions do not include
Vista yet. I see that a "Drive J" is listed in the "folders" section of
"Computer" and I can tell that this is info from my old PC's hard drive, but
it doesn't look like all of it ... mostly system info. I'm trying to find
Word, Excel, and stored pictures on this old hard drive. Any suggestions?

Did you have the old hard drive partitioned and the data on a separate
partition perhaps? If Vista isn't seeing the external drive properly
(and I'm sure someone else may have the perfect answer for you about
that aspect of this), I would just boot the computer with Knoppix or a
Bart's PE (with the external drive connected) and get the data off that way.

If you want to go the Knoppix route and need help, post back.
