I currently have a desktop connected to a cable based email system. I am
getting a notebook with wireless and plan to add a router between my desktop
and cable modem to provide email/internet for my wireless laptop. My ISP
provides one email address, so I want to know if both computers can access
email for the one email address. It would seem that the email inbox will be
split between the two computers in this scenario.

Not sure what you mean by 'cable based email system' but if its simple pop3
there shouldn't be any problems (its user/pass dependend). Optionally, you
can set one mail client to leave messages on the server so emails won't be
deleted once that client receives emails.

Yes, you can receive one address' messages on two computers. Create
an account in each computer's E-mail program. In the E-mail program,
configure the account to leave messages on the server, so that both
computers can see the messages. Also, configure the account to remove
messages from the server at some point -- after n days, or when you
delete messages from the Trash -- so that messages don't accumulate
on the server indefinitely.
