Vista 32 bit and ATI Theater 550 Pro tuner setup
Here's one for the books. Been trying to find out if my ATI Theater 550 Pro
tuner (on-board decoder) will work in Vista. Email to ATI resulted in a link to a page that essentially said that a driver would not be ready until mid 2007. I've also read here that others could not get it to work.... Tonight I noticed that there was an MS update for the ATI - so I downloaded it. Later I clicked on Windows Media Center and went thru the automatic configuration. Had the message that it was downloading (something) for over a half hour - so I canceled and went into manual mode. Very simple follow-the-bouncing-ball setup. Finally made the selection for live TV and about fell out of my chair went up pops a live TV station.... Now I have a 3 monitor setup and I have a multi-boot test setup right now. The tuner uses ATI's Multi-media software under WinXP and will only play on the main monitor. With MS Window Media Center software, I can move the TV to any one of the displays - that's neat! Haven't played with all the setup options for recording/playback but just to let others know that have the same tuner - it really does work under Vista with the latest MS update. Bob S. |
