There appears to be one native to Vista, as Windows Media Player handles
DVDs here without incident.

I have Vista home basic and it does not come with a decoder. I downloaded a
product that checks my computer for the decoder and it says there is not one
on my computer.

Default DVD Decoder for Windows Vista

I have the same problem with my vista home basic, so I downloaded vista codec
4.2.9 free at www.free-codecs.com which installed ok (when 4.2.8 last week
didn't), but trying now to play a DVD with this and media player 11, it says
that I should try reducing screen resolution and color from 32-bit to 16.
But still it will not do it! (but perhaps this is geting close!) LEJ
