I have a program that often freezes and crashes which is annoying enough, but
then i am not allowed to end it using task manager. I have tried waiting for it to close the program, ending it with end process and end process tree it never closes. My computer is not froze just the application is there anything else i can do? |

I beleive you have to turn off the UAC in order to end a process task. that
UAC protect you from yourself. Even deleting files outside your user folder will bring up the prompt. "Tim" wrote in message ... That's not so, UAC does not have to be disabled to end a task. To the OP, have you contacted the problem program author's tech support for help? Is it designed to work with Vista? -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |

There are many cases that can cause the program to freeze, not necessary a problem with that particular program. We just want to know how to end a process. Since Taskbar end process button doesn't do its job. Should I call Microsoft to ask why the end process button doesn't work?... |

But this can happen in XP as well, though not commonly. With 3rd party software, the common sense approach is contact the program author for assistance, especially when the problems are occurring on a new OS. Makes one question whether the program is Vista compatible. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |

If the task requires administrative privileges, then yes -- However, as far as Task Manager goes, hit the "Show processes from all users" to escalate Task Manager, then you're running with a full administrative token and you should be good to kill anything you want. -- Insert something clever here. |

That's still not turning off UAC, just elevating task manager to run with admin privileges. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |
