Default Vista Recovery

I think all HP PCs put the recovery files on that D: partition. It's set to
the size it needs to be to hold those files. You really don't want to mess
with it until you've read the HP instructions on what it is and how to use
it.

I just got a new PC yesterday (HP A1740N; 2GB RAM; 320GB HD; Win Vista Home
Prem). Once I got thru all the 'First Time Start' stuff, I got the HP
Total
Care Advisor screen, which told me that my D: drive 'Recovery (D' was
full.

Looking in Windows Explorer with show hidden files turned on, the PC shows
2
drives. HP (C with Vista and the standard new PC junk. It has 276GB free
and 14.9GB used. Recovery (D has 11.2MB free and 6.25 used. D drive has
MediaID.bin at 1kb; pcdr (config settings) at 1 kb; and Recovery (file)
with
no size listed. If I click on Recovery, I get a warning message saying Do
not
delete or alter... blah blah blah, and it won't allow me in. Properties
show
Recovery to have 2 files, 0 folders and being 184 kb in size.

So, I've got a full drive and no way to do anything about it. I could
really
use some help and/or suggestions.

Thanks!
Susan

Just for more info: I went into Disk Management and decreased the size of
drive C, figuring that I could then add that space to drive D. I didn't work.
It only gives me an option to decrease the size of D, but not to increase it.

Hi everyone!

Problem solved!

The D: Recovery partition is indeed only intended to hold the stuff needed
to return the PC to factory specs. However, BackUp also defaults to saving in
D drive, which it shouldn't. So, while I had turned on 'Show hidden files', I
hadn't turned on 'show protected files'. Once I did that, I found the
attempted/failed BackUp file. Once that's deleted (AFTER I make a full set of
Recovery Disks) then my D drive will be back to where it should be.
